What to Bring to a Meeting With Your Lawyer

00:00:07 Hello, I’m Frank Eskesen, founder of The Eskesen Law Firm, a New York personal injury firm. If you’ve been injured due to someone else’s negligence, taking the first step towards legal action can feel overwhelming. To make our initial meeting as productive and comfortable as possible, I’d like to share a checklist of what to bring with you. Number one, identification: please bring a valid form of photo ID, such as your driver’s license or passport. Number two, evidence: gather any documents related to the incident, especially police or

00:00:41 accident reports, photographs, or videos of the scene, your injury, and property damage. Number three: bring all medical records related to your injuries. If you don’t have the records yet, don’t worry; just be sure to come with the name and address of all hospitals, doctors, or other health care providers you’ve seen regarding this accident. If you have any bills, be sure to bring those along too. Number four, insurance: please bring information regarding your health insurance and auto insurance policies, if applicable. If this

Also bring all correspondence with insurance companies, including the claim number and adjuster’s contact details, if you know them. If not, just bring the documents and we can take care of the rest. Number five, employment and income information: if your injury has affected your ability to work, bring recent pay stubs or income statements. If self-employed, bring your tax returns. Also, documentation of missed work days

Number six, correspondence: include any communication you’ve had about the incident, including emails or letters from the other party or their insurance company, and statements you’ve given to insurers or authorities. Importantly, refrain from posting anything to social media, at least until we meet. Number seven, witnesses: please bring all information you have about witnesses, including names and contact information. If you

00:02:38 already have a witness statement, bring that along too. If not, we can handle that as well. Bring questions. This means write down any questions or concerns you might have. This ensures that we address everything that’s important to you and you leave our meeting with clarity and confidence. Your well-being is my top priority, and our first meeting is a crucial step towards securing the compensation you deserve. The more information you provide, the better equipped I’ll be to advocate on your behalf. If you need assistance gathering
